Larry Loos
22 October 1941 – 15 March 2007
It is with great love and sadness that the family of Larry Loos
announces his passing on March 15, 2007, after a hard fought battle with
cancer. He was peacefully taken while at home with his family.
Larry was born in Anamosa, Iowa on October 22, 1941. He grew up playing
baseball, basketball, football and track in Maquoketa, Iowa. Seven of
his prep records in basketball still stand today. He graduated from the
University of Iowa School of Dentistry and served honorably in the
Navy. He moved his family from San Diego to Greenbrae, California in 1973.
Larry was a pioneer in dental implant technology and lectured
throughout the world as an expert in dental occlusion. He was a member of the
faculty at Pacific Dental School for over 30 years where he served as
department chair, mentor and friend. In March 2003 he received the
Medallion of Distinction, Pacific’s highest honor.
Larry enjoyed mountain biking, long walks with Tazzle his golden
retriever, vacationing in Kauai and spending time with his family. Larry was
the loving husband of Mary Loos (deceased). He is survived by sons Brad
of San Jose, CA, Mark of Half Moon Bay, CA, daughter – in – laws
Kim and Lynne, and granddaughters Haley and Alexandria . He will be
sorely missed.
Memorial Services will be held on March 31, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at
Peace Lutheran Church in Mill Valley. Donations can be made to either the
Pacific School of Dentistry Loos Family Endowment (for student
scholarships) or the Loos Family Foundation (for cancer research).
