Larry Loos

22 October 1941 – 15 March 2007

It is with great love and sadness that the family of Larry Loos announces his passing on March 15, 2007, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was peacefully taken while at home with his family.

Larry was born in Anamosa, Iowa on October 22, 1941. He grew up playing baseball, basketball, football and track in Maquoketa, Iowa. Seven of his prep records in basketball still stand today. He graduated from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry and served honorably in the Navy. He moved his family from San Diego to Greenbrae, California in 1973.

Larry was a pioneer in dental implant technology and lectured throughout the world as an expert in dental occlusion. He was a member of the faculty at Pacific Dental School for over 30 years where he served as department chair, mentor and friend. In March 2003 he received the Medallion of Distinction, Pacific’s highest honor.

Larry enjoyed mountain biking, long walks with Tazzle his golden retriever, vacationing in Kauai and spending time with his family. Larry was the loving husband of Mary Loos (deceased). He is survived by sons Brad of San Jose, CA, Mark of Half Moon Bay, CA, daughter – in – laws Kim and Lynne, and granddaughters Haley and Alexandria . He will be sorely missed.

Memorial Services will be held on March 31, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Mill Valley. Donations can be made to either the Pacific School of Dentistry Loos Family Endowment (for student scholarships) or the Loos Family Foundation (for cancer research).
